TANKER FAMILIARIZATION COURSE

       The course is aimed at providing seafarers without experience of work on liquid carriers with information about characteristic of cargoes carried by them, their physical and chemical properties, their effect on human life, safe working practices and specific features of the fire-fighting on board tankers.

Particular reference is paid to pollution control actions, safe use of protective clothing and equipment and resuscitation equipment.

The course is supported by variable visual aids as well as by ship measuring instruments foreseen by an IMO Model Course.

The programme is made out in compliance with the IMO requirements (STCW 78/95) and is based on the IMO Model Course 1.01.

Duration of the course is 1 week.

Three separate courses are provided for training of personnel personally responsible for organization of cargo operations and safety on ships carrying oil, chemicals and liquefied gases.

Courses are aimed at development of practical skills of measuring and calculating cargo taken on board, port time, organization of the loading and discharging procedures. Specific features of liquid carries' their cargo spaces and cargo systems' design and use of measuring devices are studied too.

Particular reference is paid to emergency situations on board tankers and pollution prevention actions.

Modern cargo equipment used for training purposes enables to create and control real ship conditions.

Duration of the course is 1 week.

Training is performed by instructors experienced in work on all types of liquid carriers and certificated in the USA and Norway. Professors of the Academy ensure high level of the teaching methods.

The programme is made out in compliance with the IMO requirements and is based on the IMO Model Courses 1.02, 1.04, 1.06.
