New
Training Programs for Pilots Have Been Established
The Ministry of Transportation of the Russian Federation has established
and consolidated new pilot training programs. These programs were developed
by Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy in close collaboration with
the Federal Official Administration of Ports "Rosmorport" - the biggest
owner of pilot services in the Russian Federation.
Projects of the training programs for pilots-trainees and upgrading
programs for working pilots were discussed at the seminar "Current issues
on professional training and certification of pilots" (Saint-Petersburg,
December 2005), reviewed by the leading pilot services of the country
and coordinated with the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport.
In contrast to the current programs, new programs are estimated for
completion in 2 weeks and include big extent of practical training with
application of up-to-date simulation machinery and new training sections:
- psychophysiological testing;
- psychological aspects of pilots' duties;
- professional testing;
- maritime English language;
- usage of communication and information facilities;
- ISPS and ISM Codes in pilotage;
- first medical aid in emergency situations (instead of necessity for
training on TS (Training Ships)/CTC (Coastal Training Centers);
- rescue and survival at sea (instead of necessity for training on TS/CTC);
The purpose of the new programs' introduction is realization of the
provisions of IMO's Resolution A.960(23) and enhancement of the security
level of navigation during pilotage in ports of the Russian Federation.
