Human
Factor and Crew Resources Management Training
It is well known that 80% of navigational emergencies and accidences
are usually connected with so called "human factor". That's why the
problem of reduction of operator error influence to the emergency in
general is very serious. One of the ways out is carrying out specialized
training of the crew as a team. The methods for conducting the Crew
Resources Management (CRM) course are developed at the Makarov Training
Centre.
The principal purpose of this course is to form a realized perception
that it is necessary for crew members to work effectively as a team.
This leads not only to duly detection of operator errors, but also to
minimizing their consequences.
To solve this problem the Makarov Training Centre commissioned the
simulator of Virtual Vessel, imitating the complex of the navigating
bridge and the engine room as a single vessel.
Imitation of the realistic informational environment typical for crew
operation on board a ship is very important for identifying strong and
weak aspects in the arrangement of the crew interaction and is designed
to improve the crew resources management.
