Courses for Pilots
Rapid development of navigational equipment, STCW Convention and new
Chapter V of the SOLAS Convention implementation require great skills
on the part of pilots and navigators.
Constantly developing market of the simulator technologies enables
seafarers to familiarize themselves with new equipment, form and up-date
skills in shiphandling and radar plotting, GMDSS and ECDIS use.
Establishment of the Pilot Services in Russian Maritime Port Administrations
requires additional training of its staff.
A new courses for pilots were developed at Makarov Training Centre
for this purpose. Familiarization with and practical training on simulators
comprises up to 75% of course programme.
In 2001 Makarov Training Centre has been involved in holding up-grading
and additional training course for pilots of all Russia's ports.
Training on an integrated bridge simulator allows to imitate any mistakes
(which is impossible when one has training on board the ship), to drum
into trainees the best possible models of actions, to organize drills
aimed at pilot - VTS operator - port controller co-operation as well
as many other actions of a port.
